Year 6 – Fields - Year 6
Welcome to Year 6 – Fields Class
Hello and welcome to Fields class.
I am Miss Cornner and the Teaching Assistant is Mrs Cusano.
In Autumn 1, our History topic is Crime and Punishment. We will be learning about how crime and punishment has developed through the ages: from the detailed legal system in Roman times, weregild in Anglo-saxons and Viking times, trials by ordeal in the middle ages, the Bloody Code in the Early modern period, the introduction of peelers in the Victorian period and the legal system we now know in the 20th and 21st century. This topic will also be complemented by an exciting trip to the Tower of London! In Science, we will be learning all about Evolution and Inheritance focusing on variation and adaptation, exploring different theories of evolution and examining scientific evidence from plants and animals demonstrating evolution over time. This half term in Art and Design, we will be learning about German Expressionism and Lino printing, creating our own self-portrait Lino prints in this style. In Design and Technology, we will be using a combination of textiles skills such as attaching fastenings, appliqué and decorative stitches to design, assemble and decorate a fit for purpose item. In RE, we will be learning about Justice and Poverty, answering the question “Does faith make a difference?” In French this half term, we will be focusing on French sports and the Olympics. In computing, we will be learning all about data handling and how to represent data digitally. We are excited about Music this term as we have a specialist music teacher who will deliver Steel pans lessons to the year group. This will finish with a concert to parents.
In Autumn 2, our Geography topic is Enough for Everyone. In this unit, we will think about the needs of a settlement, and the needs of the planet as a whole. We will find out where resources such as power and food come from and look at ways in which natural resources can be conserved. After discussing the idea of a carbon footprint, we will have the chance to consider how our actions impact others around the world, and think about the changes that we could make to try to ensure that natural resources are shared so there is enough for everyone. This topic will be complemented with an outdoor learning day, taking part in different activities to highlight the challenges our world is facing. In Science lessons, we will be learning about Classification of Living Things, describing how living things are classified into broad groups according to observable characteristics based on similarities and differences, including micro-organisms, plants and animals. In Computing, we will be using the programming language of Python to create computer generated art. In French, we will be learning all about French football champions and the associated vocabulary. This half term in RE, we will be focusing on the idea of being part of a community, answering the question ‘What will make our community a more respectful place?
Facts about Year 6 – Fields
Born in Jamaica, Dwayne Fields came to the UK at the age of six. His formative years in the UK were in inner city London. As a child in wild Jamaica, Dwayne loved nature and wildlife and wanted to reconnect to his early life in the forests and hilltops of Jamaica.
In 2010, Dwayne set himself his first of many challenges, becoming the first black Briton to walk over 400 miles to the magnetic North Pole. Since then his life has become richer, living a life of adventure and exploration, inspiring young people nationwide to explore the ‘great outdoors’ – wherever that may be.
