Intent

We believe that learning a foreign language is a necessary part of being a member of a multi-cultural
society and provides an opening to other cultures. We provide languages education that fosters children’s curiosity and deepens their understanding. Our children learn to respond to spoken language, speak with increasing confidence and fluency and to write at varying length using the variety of grammatical structures they have learnt. Our teaching enables children to express their ideas and thoughts in another language and provides opportunities for them to communicate for practical purposes.

We provide a stimulating and exciting MFL curriculum aided through Kapow, which teaches French through a variety of engaging topics linking to their everyday lives and surrounding world.

Our diverse scheme nurtures pupils’ curiosity, love of learning languages and the building blocks for future language aquisition. It enables pupils to express their ideas and thoughts in another language and to understand and respond to its speakers, both in speech and in writing. In Lower Key Stage 2 children focus on their vocabulary and oral conversational skills. Upper Key Stage 2 extends this learning and develops written language skills.

Children learn through singing and listening to French songs, role play, games, call and response.

French club runs weekly where children play games, sing songs and practise their conversational skills.

Aspire to be

At Scott Primary, we aim to inspire our children to reach for a range of jobs regardless of their culture, background or heritage. Therefore we use our aspire to be posters to give some information about the different jobs and professions that the children could want to do when they leave us. These posters are displayed around our school and the children have the opportunity to read them, learn from them and on most use a QR code to delve deeper into the person life.
