Welcome to Year 4 – Lambert Class

Hello and welcome to Lambert Class.

I am Mrs Donnaloia and the Learning Support Assistants are Mrs Hester-Robb, Miss Blazi, Miss McCurrach Miss Michelin & Miss Sturge.

The Romans

In History, we will explore how advanced Roman society was and learn about when, how and why the Romans invaded Britain. In PE, the children will take part in swimming sessions at Kempston Pool, developing their confidence and aiming to swim 25 metres. Our PSHE topic is Healthy Me, where we will learn about balanced diets and making healthy choices to support our physical and mental wellbeing through exercise, nutrition and hydration. In Science, we will explore the digestive system; using models to understand the functions of key organs and how food is processed by the body. In DT, the children will learn about different types of clothing fastenings and use their sewing skills to create their own book covers. In RE, we will consider how religious and non-religious beliefs influence values, choices and actions. We will explore ideas such as the Golden Rule, charity and religious teachings, and compare different commandments.

In Music, the children will develop their singing, listening and performing skills through a range of songs and activities linked to our History topic. In French, we will practise speaking and writing sentences to describe friends, using familiar sentence structures. In Art, the children will explore line, texture and tone to create 3D Roman column artwork using pencil, chalk and charcoal.

Extreme Earth

We will learn about natural disasters, how people can stay safe during them and how volcanoes erupt. We will investigate the structure of the Earth and the movement of tectonic plates, exploring how mountains, volcanoes and earthquakes are formed. In PSHE, our topic will be Connecting with Others, where we will explore the importance of respect and consider how behaviour and expectations can change in different settings. In Science, we will investigate electricity by exploring circuits, electrical components and conductivity through practical experiments and real-life applications. In DT, the children will apply their knowledge of electricity to design and make a torch using recycled and reclaimed materials.

In RE, we will learn about the significance of religious festivals, exploring their traditions, beliefs and practices and comparing how different faiths celebrate. In French, the children will learn the names of different items of clothing and use them in simple sentences. They will also practise expressing what they like and dislike. In Music, we will investigate the history of Rock and Roll. The children will learn the hand jive actions, sing in time with the music and play the walking bass as part of an ensemble. In Art, we will create still-life drawings of fruit using oil pastels, developing their use of colour, texture and tone to create realistic effects.
