SEND

At Scott Primary, inclusion is at the heart of all we do. Every child is valued and we strive to meet the individual needs of all pupils within our school.

We carefully monitor all pupils and use this information to identify and target any child making limited progress, shaping support and interventions that meet their needs. All staff understand the importance of early identification of children with SEND and receive high-quality training that informs their practice. It is essential that we work closely with parents and that they are fully informed about their child’s learning journey and the SEND process, with regular opportunities to discuss their progress. We reinforce school-based SEND support with advice and collaboration with the Local Authority, health professionals and community organisations, to provide the most effectual provision for our pupils.

If you wish to discuss any queries or concerns relating to your child and SEND support, please do not hesitate to contact me.

The Parents and Carers Section of the Local Offer can support with seeking childcare, health or educational advice, housing or employment information, or simply finding fun things to do with your child within your community.

The SEND Code of Practice

The SEND Code of Practice is statutory guidance for schools or other organisations working with and supporting children with special educational needs and disabilities. It is a set of guidelines that the Department for Education (DfE) say local authorities and schools should follow.

The Code of Practice shapes our policies and procedures in school, and sets out the duties and expectations of schools in supporting children with SEND.

Bedford Borough Parent Carer Forum

The Bedford Borough Parent Carer Forum is a group of parents and carers of children with SEND, who work closely and collaborate with schools, community organisations, health providers and the Local Authority to ensure that available services meet the needs of children with disabilities.

The Parent Carer Forum is also there to offer support directly to families, providing opportunities to participate in family fun days, coffee events, conferences, training and focus groups.
