Year 1 – Bumblebees - Year 1

Welcome to Year 1 – Bumblebees Class

Hello and welcome to Bumblebees class.

We are Miss Pell and Miss Ross and our Learning Support Assistants are Miss Elliott, Miss Cook, Miss Southwell and Miss Michelin

In Summer 1 our topic is ‘History of Bedford’. We will be learning about John Bunyan and how our town has changed over time. In Science, we will be learning about animals and humans. We will be learning to identify, name, draw and label the basic parts of the human body and say which part of the body is associated with each sense. Our RE learning involves finding out about significant places and what makes them special. In Music, we will be learning to identify high and low notes and use this to help us create a simple tune to represent a superhero! In DT, we will research different types of windmills and learn more about how they work. We will then be designing and constructing our own windmills. In PHSE, we will be thinking about how to build positive and healthy relationships with our friends and families. 

In Summer 2 our topic will be ‘Wild and Wonderful’. In Science we will be finding out about plants, how they grow and what they need to survive. In Geography we will be mapping our local area and comparing it to another town in a non-European country. In Computing we will be programming a Bee-Bot to follow an algorithm. We will explore cause and effect and learn how to debug a simple algorithm. In outdoor learning this half term, we will be using natural materials from our local surroundings to ‘create a critter’. Our focus in PE will be on striking and fielding through a range of different team games.
