Welcome to Year 3 – Coleman Class

Hello and welcome to Coleman Class.

I am Mrs Cowley and our Learning Support Assistants are Mrs Abraham and Mr Smith.

The Stone Age

In Autumn 1, we will be learning about where the Stone Age fits on a timeline and how people lived and adapted their lives during this time. We will be thinking about how they found food and how their home changed and developed over time. In DT, we will be designing and making light up information posters, using simple circuits. Our Music unit will be focused on ballads where we will learn and perform a ballad before writing our own lyrics to a ballad based on an animation.  In Science, we will be exploring the properties of rocks and learning about how rocks are created and in French we will be developing confidence in speaking and understanding French through greetings, introductions and simple conversations.

Antarctica

In Autumn 2, we will be exploring the physical features of Antarctica, examining how people adapt to working in this extreme environment and planning an expedition inspired by Shackleton’s journey.  In Computing this half term we will be exploring databases where we will learn how to use and create a database. Our French unit this half term focuses on adjectives (shape, colour and size) and we will use this information to describe shapes and create our own images. In Science we will be exploring the role of skeletons and muscles. We will be learning how the body uses energy and what constitutes a balanced diet. In our DT lessons we will investigating how compressed air can create movement via a mechanism and be used in a working pneumatic toy.
