Year 3 – Coleman - Year 3
Welcome to Year 3 – Coleman Class
Hello and welcome to Coleman class.
I am Mrs Wallis and the Teaching Assistants are Miss McCurrach, Miss Andrews, Mrs Goodwin and Mrs Graham
In the first half of the Spring term, our topic is the Ancient Egypt.
In History lessons, we will be learning more about this fascinating time period, starting with the creation of our own Ancient Egyptian timelines. We will sequence events chronologically and
identify where they fit in with other historical periods that we have previously learned about. We are really looking forward to being joined by History Off the Page for an immersive Egyptian experience on Thursday 19th January.
In Music, we are learning about ballads and creating our own ones.
In Science, we will be exploring light and darkness, finding out about natural and man-made light sources and why light is so important.
In Maths this half term, we will be continuing with multiplication and division, developing our fluency, reasoning and problem-solving skills. We will then move onto length and perimeter later in the term.
In the second half of the Spring term, our topic will be where does our food come from. Children will be learning about how food choices impact the environment and where the food for their school dinners comes from.
In RE lessons, we will learn more about Sikhism, including key celebrations, religious symbols and special places of worship.
In French, the children will learn to respond to and give simple instructions, learn and use vocabulary for items commonly found in a school bag and classroom and begin to build simple sentences.
Facts about Year 3 – Coleman
Bessie Coleman was an American aviator and the first Black woman to earn a pilot’s license. Because flying schools in the United States denied her entry, she taught herself French and moved to France, earning her licence from France’s well-known Caudron Brother’s School of Aviation in just seven months. Bessie was born on January 26, 1892, in Atlanta, Texas. She’s one of 13 children to Susan and George Coleman, who both worked as sharecroppers.
