Year 3 – Coleman - Year 3
Welcome to Year 3 – Coleman Class
Hello and welcome to Coleman class.
I am Mrs Wallis and the Teaching Assistants are Miss McCurrach, Miss Andrews, Mrs Goodwin and Mrs Graham
Coleman Class have got another busy term lined up!
In the first half of the Summer term, our topic is The Iron Age, with a focus on the Celts. In History lessons, we will be learning more about this exciting period in history, beginning with a look at some of the key events. We will sequence these events chronologically and identify where they fit in with other historical periods that we have previously learned about. We are really looking forward to our upcoming Faith Tour trip which takes place on the 30th of April. We will be learning about forces in Science and using magnets to explore the properties of different materials. In Maths, we will be looking at mass and capacity before moving onto fractions. The children will complete fluency, reasoning and problem solving questions within each of these units.
In the second half of the Summer term, our topic will be Rainforests. In our Geography lessons we will be finding out where rainforests are and what they are made up of. We will then compare the climate, housing and trade found in the Amazon rainforest with our local area. In Design and Technology lessons, we will be researching where fruit comes from and then designing our very own fruit salads. The children will learn how to chop their fruit safely and prepare their salads in an appealing way. They will taste their creations and evaluate them. In Computing, the children will be building on their coding skills from Year 2. They will describe an algorithm for simple tasks and program commands into a sequence to achieve a specific outcome.
Facts about Year 3 – Coleman
Bessie Coleman was an American aviator and the first Black woman to earn a pilot’s license. Because flying schools in the United States denied her entry, she taught herself French and moved to France, earning her licence from France’s well-known Caudron Brother’s School of Aviation in just seven months. Bessie was born on January 26, 1892, in Atlanta, Texas. She’s one of 13 children to Susan and George Coleman, who both worked as sharecroppers.
