Welcome to Year 3 – Coleman Class

Hello and welcome to Coleman class.

Coleman Class have got another busy half term lined up!

In the first half of the autumn term, our topic is The Stone Age. In our History lessons, we learn about the different foods the Stone Age people ate, the types of homes they lived in. We will also be learning about Skara Brae, which is where archaeologists have found remains of houses and artefacts belonging to the Stone Age.

In Science, we are learning about the different types of rocks and explored their different properties as well as carrying out experiments to test the permeability of them. In maths, we are learning about place value using hundreds, tens and ones. We will then move on to addition and subtraction using different methods such as a number line and the introduction on the column method. In English, we are starting with a new text called ‘The Wilderness’ before moving on to ‘Leon and the Place Between.’ We will be looking at using a wide range of vocabulary and the different word classes such as identifying nouns, verbs and adjectives.

The second half of the autumn term will be our ‘Who lives in Antarctica?’ topic where we will concentrate on Geography. The children will learn about the different animals that live in Antarctica as well as the different types of research that takes place there. In maths, we begin our multiplication and division unit where the children will implement different ways of sharing and grouping when dividing and learning the different ways to multiply. Our ukulele concert will be taking place in December as will our Christmas performance, which takes place on the 11th of December.

Facts about Year 3 – Coleman

Bessie Coleman was an American aviator and the first Black woman to earn a pilot’s license. Because flying schools in the United States denied her entry, she taught herself French and moved to France, earning her licence from France’s well-known Caudron Brother’s School of Aviation in just seven months. Bessie was born on January 26, 1892, in Atlanta, Texas. She’s one of 13 children to Susan and George Coleman, who both worked as sharecroppers.
