Welcome to Reception – Chicks Class
Hello and welcome to Chicks class.
I am Miss Gilbert and the Teaching Assistants are Mrs Read, Mrs Bell, Miss Clarke, Mrs Chowdhury and Mrs Southwell
To start our year, we spend Autumn 1 familiarising the children with their classroom environment and building friendships. Our topic for this half term is ‘Jungle Adventures’. The children will work as teams to take turns and think about what makes a kind friend. In Maths, we will be matching and sorting a range of objects, discussing size, mass and capacity and beginning to recognise and recreate patterns using various objects. In Literacy, the children will be exposed to letter sounds and simple words. They will be practicing name recognition, writing and will explore a range of books, rhymes and poems based around our topic. A highlight of this topic will be exploring our woods, hunting for natural items and creating our own collages!
As part of our Autumn 2 topic, ‘Up Up and Away’, we will be investigating different modes of transport and will design and make our own aeroplanes. In Maths, we will be representing, comparing and gaining a deeper understanding of the composition of numbers. We will be focusing on one more and one less and using positional language. In Literacy, the children will explore a range of different writing opportunities including postcard writing, holiday packing lists and writing about different holiday scenes. The children will also learn and write about different air transport. This half term we will focus on keeping safe as well as talk about any worries we may have and how we can help someone who is worried. Our outdoor adventure this half term will be finding and identifying different living creatures around our school environment.
