Year 1 – Bumblebees - Year 1

Welcome to Year 1 – Bumblebees Class

Hello and welcome to Bumblebees class.

We are Miss Pell and Ms Newman. The Teaching Assistants are Mrs Tiddeman, Mrs Franco, Mrs Abraham and Miss Michelin

We are starting the year with a fabulous topic called ‘Walking With Dinosaurs!’  We will be learning lots of exciting things.

In Science, we will identify and name a variety of common animals including fish and reptiles. We will name, draw and label the basic parts of the human body and say which part of the body is associated with each sense and we will be learning about carnivores, herbivores and omnivores.

In DT, we will be designing and creating a moving dinosaur picture.

In PE, we will be learning to move in different ways with increasing control. We will respond to music through movement and dance.

In Computing, we will have our E-Safety lesson and we learn how to login and navigate a computer, developing mouse skills. Dizzy Dino will help us in Geography to learn about the continents and oceans.

In RE, we will be finding out about Christianity and what Christians believe God is like. Important celebrations like Harvest, Bandhi Chor Diwas, and Diwali will be celebrated.

In Music, we will learn a range of songs and games to develop a sense of pulse and rhythm.

In PHSE, we will recognise how to feel proud and understand our rights and responsibilities as part of class.

In Autumn 2, we will go back in time to find out about Victorian toys. We will learn about these toys from the past, create a timeline of how toys have changed over time and we will compare Victorian toys with toys from today and identify any similarities and differences.

In Music, through fairy tales, children will be introduced to the concept of timbre; learning that different sounds can represent characters and key moments in a story.

In RE, we will be finding out what Christmas is and why it is a very important time for Christians.

In Computing, we will learn what data is and the different ways that it can be represented and we will learn why data is useful.

In Science, we will be exploring, identifying and classifying a range of everyday materials and their physical properties. We will also be asking questions to support our investigations, such as ‘Which material would be best to make a boat from?’

In PHSE, we will learn about respect for similarities and differences, we will also learn about Anti-bullying and being unique.

In DT, we will design and create a puppet using a range of joining techniques, for example, stapling and sticking fabric together. In PE, we will learn and practise a variety of skills, including travelling movements, rolls, jumps and balances.
