Key Stage 1 Children – Years 1-2
Year 1
Spelling Shed Daily
Our weekly spellings are linked to our Phonics learning for that week. The children practise these each morning in school using a ‘look, copy, write, check’ approach and then complete a spelling challenge with these words on a Friday morning. They will bring home their red spelling challenge book on a Friday to share their hard work with you and to enable you to see any words that they might need to practise further. Please ensure that this book is in their bags and returned to school on a Monday morning each week ready for our next spelling challenge!
Your child’s weekly spellings are available to access via Spelling Shed and their login details have been stuck into the front of their reading records. We encourage the children to practise their spellings little and often on Spelling Shed. There are different games that the children can play to help them to learn their words for the week. If your child also wishes to write down their words as part of their practise, we will always be delighted to share their hard work in the classroom!
NumBots Daily
You can find your child’s login details for NumBots in the front cover of their reading record. Please note that you will also need to enter the school name in order to log in. We have shown the children how to log in and will continue to support them with this.
We will be encouraging the children to try and play twice a week, for around 5 minutes at a time.
We hope that NumBots will give the children an extra opportunity to practise lots of the skills that we will be learning and using in the classroom!
