A ‘Mammoth’ achievement from Amber and Kaitlyn

Year 3 has been learning about the Stone Age and how it fits on a timeline and how people lived and adapted their lives during this time.
Amber and Kaitlyn have worked really hard and produced extra work to extend their knowledge on this topic. Well done both of you.

Amelia who is now in Year 7 at secondary school made a fantastic presentation for our Year 2 children.
In Year 2 we learn about the Great Fire of London and Amelia, whose sister is now in Year 2, wanted to share her knowledge from when she learned about this topic.

‘Allo ‘Allo ‘Allo Scott Primary receives award from Bedfordshire Police

Today our Year 6 pupils received an award from Bedfordshire Police for being selected a winner in the ‘Bedfordshire Police’s Reporting Hate Crime’ leaflet competition.
The children contributed artwork and positive comments to stand with members of all communities in saying there is no place for hate in Bedfordshire.
Bedfordshire Police visited today to present them the certificate and talk about their work. The police officers enjoyed fish & chips and ice cream with the children in the school dinner hall.
Thank you to Bedfordshire Police for a very enjoyable visit.
Snow White visits Scott Primary School…..Oh Yes She Did!

This was made possible because of the fundraising by our PTA.
We are so grateful to the PTA for their hard work in organising fundraising initiatives and we know they always need more volunteers to carry on the good work
Scott Primary School Pupils Travel back to Roman Times
October 10 2024
Pupils in Year 4 travelled back in time to 60 AD when the Romans occupied Britain, and unrest was growing. The widowed Iceni queen, Boudica, seeks to overthrow Roman rule – as do the Trinovantes. In her fury, Boudica wipes out whole communities. No one knows where she might strike next.
The children were asked by the Roman government to investigate the belongings of soldiers, civilians, Britons and slaves. They determined who the people were, what their role in the Rebellion might have been, and whether one of them may have been a Boudican spy!
In the afternoon everyone enjoyed a Roman feast with food, mimes, music and dance.
A big thank you to History of the Page and to all our parent helpers to make it an educational and memorable day.

At the end of term our Rocksteady Music School children performed for their parents and carers. It was amazing to see all of their hard work, musical technique and confidence shine through and we are immensely proud of them!

Bedford School Enrichment Day

Some of our Year 5 & 6 children had a fantastic day at Bedford School recently.
They organised an enrichment day for local primary schools. We took part in music, poetry and debating activities and had a lovely free lunch!

Scott really does have talent!

July 3rd and 4th 2024 saw an array of amazing talent showcased at our annual Scott’s Got Talent performances.
We had dancers, singers, musical instruments, comedians and hula hooping whilst solving a Rubix Cube!
The judges had a very difficult time not only choosing the winners, but also throughout the preceding auditions. They saw so many children perform many incredible spectacles covering a huge breadth of acts.
We saw hard work, flair, skill, team work and best of all, they all had lots of fun.
A great big well done to ALL the performers and you are ALL winners but the judges did have to make the hard decision and crowned Washe the Key Stage 2 winner for his entertaining dance routine to Uptown Funk. The Key Stage 1 winner was Amiah with her amazing gymnastic routine.
We also need to say a big thank you to the staff and the parents for their hard work and support for what were truly enjoyable experiences.

Layla & Kylie Dixon race BMX at regional level for the East Region and this year they have challenged themselves at a national level racing against the fastest girls in country. They travelled to Manchester for rounds 7&8. There were just over 1,000 entries ages ranging from 5 up to 55+.
The sun was out and the girls gave it 100% and developing skills, gaining experience and having fun are the main goals and Kylie achieved 10th on both days and Layla got a 9th and a 7th. Well done!
Svyatoslav Colotelo participated at the CYM National Rally – Krayoviy Zdvyh 2024 in Derby, organised by Ukrainian Youth Association in Great Britain. Members from all over the country showcased their talents and passion for Ukrainian heritage through songs, dances, music, and poetry. He was awarded with 3 first places in best singing duet, best poetry declamation and best mixed choir song.
Alexa Govorusa, Bella Sapsford & Olivia Ashpole also play for Real Bedford U9 Tigresses and won their second tournament of the season in the Woburn & Wavendon Lionesses tournament.
Real Bedford U9 Tigeresses were the U9 trophy winners. Only losing two games the whole season and they scored an amazing 177 goals in 20 games!
- Bella Sapsford was awarded Players Player of the year and also nominated for Defender of the year.
- Rosie Felice was awarded Managers Player of the year.
- Olivia Ashpole was awarded Supporters Player of the year.
Real Bedford Pirates U9 team were also on a winning streak. Chloe Matthews won Most Improved Player, an amazing achievement as this was her first season. Skye Bishop was awarded a medal and Ava Drage won Managers Player.
Ava Appleton plays for Real Bedford U10’s and was awarded Most Improved Player and Top Scorer with 29 Goals in her first season.
Benas Simulis and his team has won their football tournament. On 27th July he will take park in the Pretty Muddy Kids 5k. He and his cousins have so far raised £195 for Cancer Research.
Zach Wade was awarded Players Player and Golden Boot for top goal scorer from his Bedford Town Football Club.
Jaxon Carter has been offered a place in the MK Dons centre of excellence for next season which means representing them in fixtures. He has also won 2 tournaments over the summer with his team Kempston Rovers Colts.
Savannah Howard Lad and her team, Real Bedford U11 girls, won a football tournament, they have so far won all of their tournaments this season.
Lily-May Cumberland’s team, Real Bedford U11, took part in 5 tournaments and won all of them! She was also voted Managers Player at the end of season awards and was the top goal scorer with 59 goals during the season!
Top Marks again for Scott Primary in the School Games Awards

We are delighted to announce that Scott Primary School have achieved the School Games Platinum Mark Award for the 2023/24 academic year.
This is the top grading!
The School Games Mark is a Government-led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community, and we are delighted to have been recognised for our success.
Entrepreneurial Year 5 Business Club makes a profit

When a group of Year 5 children came up with an idea to start a business to sell clay bead and loom band jewellery, who are we to stand in their way?
In order to join the club, all Year 5 children were set a task to come up with a mission statement for the business. We were very impressed with all the hard work they put into their statements and so the group was formed.
As one of our 4 school rules is to be kind, it was decided that any profit would be donated to the school PTA to help towards funding enriching experiences and equipment for all the children.
Over the term the children learnt about income, expenditure, profit or loss, wages, pricing and marketing.
They set up a production line and worked really hard and efficiently as teams to produce sufficient stock to sell to Years 2&3. They were so dedicated that they spent time at home making more items.
Next up, they worked out suitable price points to take into account making a profit but to also make the products affordable.
Posters were created and they spread the word to create a buzz for the upcoming sale – a career in marketing awaits some of the children!
They displayed the products really well and helped the excited children choose and made sure they got the correct change. There was some top hustling and up-selling going on!
Now the crucial bit – the money was counted and we are delighted to announce that the money in was greater than the initial outlay. They spent £50 and generated £76 which is a 50% profit – an amazing achievement in a short time.
Next stop – Sir Alan Sugar will be calling!
Sports Round-Up

Firstly our boys’ and girls’ Cricket Teams have been competing in their District Leagues. Both teams have improved hugely and enjoyed learning of the game along the way.
Every child in Year 5&6 took part in a Summer Sports Festival that we hosted at Scott Primary. Cricket, rounders and athletics were the sports of choice. All the students were fantastically behaved and enjoyed the experience. This is the second Sports Festival we have hosted this academic year.
We also competed in a Year 5&6 athletics event at Bedford Athletics Stadium. Our students took part in: 75m sprint, 600m run, standing long jump and vortex throwing. We were very impressed with our students progress and they finished 3rd place out of over 25 schools across Bedford.
What an achievement!
Our entire Key Stage 2 had their sports day which involved 10 exercise stations and sprints, in front of their parents. The weather was kind and we were supported by excellent leaders from Bedford Sixth Form, who took scores for us. We are very lucky to have these strong school links in our community.

Refugee Week Assembly

To raise awareness for Refugee Week, the Language Ambassadors gave an assembly on the plight of refugees and asylum seekers.
The assembly was interactive and informative and they asked children in Key Stage 2 to create wishes they have for the world.

Celebrating Captain Scott

This week, we celebrated Captain Scott’s birthday and all became explorers.
Years 2-6 had a special assembly from Henrietta at the Polar Institute in Cambridge. She talked to us about Scott’s expedition and showed us some amazing artefacts.
All classes have also taken part in Outdoor Learning activities as part of the celebration.
Perfect Poetry Performances

We were invited to Priory Primary School to take part in an inter-school competition with Edith Cavell Primary and Priory Primary.
18 children took part (6 from each school) and the children performed their poems extremely well and made our school proud.
All the children spoke with clarity and confidence and all children enjoyed listening to all the inspiring performances.
We were delighted that Emily and Taylor came joint 1st and Ella, Evan and a Priory Pupil came 3rd.
Football Champion Roman
June 7 2024
Roman played in the ENG international cup finals at Chelsea FC on 2nd June.
There were over 90 teams participating and his team won the prestigious competition, pipping quality teams like Aston Villa and Shamrock Rovers and others across England, Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland to take home the U11 cup!
This team, Supreme Football, was created only 2 months ago with Roman chosen alongside 9 other talented football players that play in local shadow elite academies including Peterborough, Luton, Cambridge and, MK Dons.
Grayson’s Roller Hockey Victory
June 7 2024
At the end of May, Grayson’s U10 roller hockey team were crowned champions and won the Bipha South League, going all season undefeated.
Grayson was also 1 of 5 individuals who made the dream team – an accolade which is voted by coaches and referees across the whole U10’s league.

Singing into half term

The rain stayed away for our school concert yesterday and after weeks of practising, the children were very excited to perform for our parents and families.
All the children performed beautifully and we are so proud of them – what a lovely way to start half term.
Have a well deserved break and we look forward to seeing the children back on Monday 3rd June
Year 4 enjoying the outdoor life

The Year 4 children loved their residential trip to Grafham Water this month.
They showed perseverance and resilience when faced with challenges. The activities included stand up paddle boarding, kayaking, Jacob’s ladder, low ropes, high ropes, crate stack and the Grafham Challenge.
The children were all amazing and faced some of their fears during this time and most importantly, they had loads of fun.

This week Year 4 had a visit from the charity ‘Making Me‘.
Making Me’s vision is to teach children to thrive by equipping them with the skills and understanding to proactively navigate their mental and emotional journey into adulthood – what underpins our vision is the concept that ‘knowledge is power’.
The children learned about resilience and how to respond to difficult situations.
Year 5 get creative

In Art, Year 5 have been looking at synthetic cubism and created some work in the style of Picasso and Braque using oil pastels and collage.
Isla’s charity walk

A huge congratulations to Isla on completing a sponsored 20 mile walk (in very warm weather) for Team Jake – a children’s leukemia charity.
Isla said it took her 8 hours to complete and she enjoyed the weekend after laying down!

Poppy Searle & Bella Sapford, Year 4, competed at Future Cheer Prep Nationals last weekend.
This was the first time they have competed in the national championships.
Out of 11 amazing teams in their division, Poppy & Bella’s Mini Team Daredevils were placed an incredible second place!
This means they are second ‘Extra Small Mini Prep Level 1 Cheerleading Team’ in the UK in 2024.
Bedford Independent Everyday Heroes Awards

This week the Bedford Independent, in partnership with the Harpur Trust, hosted their annual Everyday Heroes awards. This event is to recognise the everyday heroes in Bedford Borough who do amazing things that are over and above and do so selflessly and humbly.
We are delighted that 3 heroes from the Scott Family were not only nominated, but were made finalists and therefore invited to attend the ceremony at The Quarry Theatre.
The categories include Young Achievers, Young Carers, Excellence in Education, Fundraisers, Unsung Heroes, Volunteers and Raising the Profile of the Town.
The awards are independently judged who go through all the nominations to make the difficult choice of deciding the finalists. Therefore to be invited to the ceremony is testament to the amazing achievements of the shortlisted few.

- Young Carer – Mollie-Marie Gadsby
- Excellence in Education – Mrs Barker
We are overjoyed that not only did we have 3 finalists but Lola won the Young Achiever category and Mollie-Marie was highly commended in the Young Carer category.
It was lovely to be part of this feel-good event and to also see all the other finalists and to recognise how these people go above and beyond to make a difference to so many people.
Look out for when the Bedford Independent announce when nominations are open for all the good deeds that have been and will be done during 2024.
* In the interests of transparency, Mrs Barker hasn’t read this blog post as she, like all the other finalists, do not consider themselves ‘heroes’ and wouldn’t want to make a fuss. However we think we should let everyone know (and we hope we don’t get sent to sit on the thinking chair!!)

Bedfordshire Festival of Music, Speech and Drama

The Bedfordshire Festival of Music, Speech and Drama is an annual festival and was founded in 1921 and provides a showcase for the wealth of talent in the amateur performing arts in Bedfordshire and the surrounding area.
We are very proud of the 24 children from our school who took part over the week long festival in March. We know it takes courage to stand up in front of the judges, audience and fellow performers to recite their poems.
All our children spoke with confidence and clarity and we are delighted that half of our children were awarded first (3), second (5) and third (5) places and all children received very positive feedback.
Thank you to their coach, Mrs Redford, who did a brilliant job and also the parents and carers for their support.
We want to say a very big thank you to the children who worked very hard, not just on the day but with all their rehearsals in the weeks leading up to it – your dedication surpassed all expectations.
Well done to Aarav, Dylan, Ella, Emily, Erick, Esmae, Esme, Even, Harry, Imogen, Isaac, Ivy, Liliana, Lily, Mason, Meredith, Mila, Phoebe, Poppy, Rosie, Ruby, Satkirat, Shelby, Taylor, Violet and Zhane.
The children then performed an assembly for our Year 3-6 children and hopefully inspired future performers
Science Week Poster competition winners

The competition was stiff, but Amber, Niamh, Esme, Rosie and Emmeline came out on top as chosen by the Science Ambassadors. We hope you enjoy your well-deserved Science kits!
Easter Basket and Bonnet Parade

The Children in Reception enjoyed showing their families their Easter bonnets and baskets this morning and then sang a selection of beautiful Easter songs.
Half term sports’ round up

Our Year 3&4 basketball teams enjoyed lots of fixtures this half term. A fantastic effort from both the boy’s teams meant they won their leagues. Our girls teams were also high flying. Our B team came 4th in the league of 12 teams and our A team came joint first (just missing out on the gold due to points scored). Amazing achievements!
We also took 30 Year 2 children to Westfield School where they enjoyed dance, football and hockey. 30 of our Year 3 children travelled to Goldington Green School for their sports festival for invasion and inclusion games which they all really enjoyed.
Our Year 3&4 children have been enjoying after school dance classes, led by Jenny Rochford from Dance Path Company. An inspirational teacher who the kids have loved learning from.
We have also had BEE Creative Dance Company into school to deliver interactive ways of learning about Dance and Technology. Peter Thompson (5 Time Skipping World Record Breaker) comes into our school weekly to deliver his very successful Exercise Behaviour Program to our students, which helps them to goal set, plan for the future and think about the correct steps in improving their behaviour through sporting pursuits. The students have been blown away by how much passion he has, and how effective he can be in improving effort and attainment.
Our 32 Playground Pals in Years 5&6 continue to help our break and lunch staff every day in keeping the children engaged and active.
Mrs Weerasirie has been pivotal in our Schools Fitness and Feelings Program, working on raising confidence, attendance and self esteem, whilst also getting the kids active.

Scott Primary students took part in Dreamcoat Stars (with Theatretrain) on Friday at the Corn Exchange. This was a professional show and all the children that took apart shone and showed huge commitment.
We are incredibly proud of them all.

Bedford School Observatory trip
Thank you to Bedford School for inviting some of our Year 5 and 6 children to their observatory. They learnt all about constellations and how stars are formed and eventually die. Unfortunately, it was too cloudy to do any stargazing in their telescopes, but they had an excellent evening regardless.
Science Week 2024
March 2024
Science Week began with an assembly delivered by our science ambassadors looking at the theme of ‘Time’.
The science ambassadors also led a Science Fair for Reception and Key Stage 1 where they had a number of experiments for them to try out, covering different aspects of science: floating and sinking, electrical circuits, chemical reactions, magnetism etc.
Reception and Key Stage 1 also enjoyed an enriching and educational visit from Teaching Talons who brought with them some amazing animals to see and touch.
Key Stage 2 enjoyed experiencing the Mark Rutherford Planetarium which was blown up in our Sports Barn. We enjoyed stargazing and learning about how the sun, moon and stars were formed.
Year 5 spent time in our science lab and investigated which materials were the best conductors of electricity and made the bulb shine the brightest.
International Women’s Day and Let Girls Play

Today all the girls in Year 1 to 6 had the opportunity to enjoy football coaching as part of the #LetGirlsPlay football campaign and our ongoing commitment to girls’ football
Mr Allen and his team of volunteer coaches spent the morning with the girls teaching them valuable skills and more importantly, having lots of fun!
A big thank you to Mr Allen and the coaches for this memorable morning celebrating International Women’s Day.
World Book Day 2024

Year 6 Chandi Assembly

Chandi class gave a wonderful assembly on The Victorians and the Industrial Revolution. They showed a deep understanding on the subject and gave a superb performance.

Year 5 Tudor Day

Year 5 had a lovely day and took part in all sorts of Tudor activities including a banquet, a performance, candle making, leather book marks, pomanders, ink making and lots more!

Year 3 Egyptian Day

Year 3 were transported back to an ancient Egyptian market where the children were able to make canopic jars, perfume, perform mini mummification and paint tomb pictures.
They enjoyed a banquet and were musicians, dancers, story tellers, servants & our royal courtiers.

Year 2 Victorian Day
January 11 2024
Year 2 had an amazing Victorian Day where they learnt all about what life would have been like ‘above’ and ‘below’ stairs. They also enjoyed taking part in recreating a Victorian Music Hall with a range of acts, including acrobats, mind readers and strong men!
