Hillary - Year 6

Welcome to Hillary Class!

Our class is named after Edmund Hillary. Edmund Hillary was the first man (along with his sherpa Tenzing Norgay) to reach the summit of Mount Everest. Our teacher is Mr Holdsworth. Mr Holdsworth will teach some lessons in the afternoon and Miss Mirto will teach others. These will be to both Year 6 classes. Mrs Cusano will also be helping us in our classroom. Our topics in Year 6 are Crime and Punishment, Ancient Egypt, and The Ancient Maya.

We are really enthusiastic about all our fantastic Topics and making our last year at Primary School one to remember! We also have the exciting residential trip planned for the end of the year.

Interesting facts about Sir Edmund Hillary

Sir Edmund Hillary was born in 1919. He was an explorer and mountain climber. Together with Sherpa Tenzing Norgay, he was the first to climb to the summit of Mount Everest, the tallest mountain in the world. Hillary became interested in climbing when he was 16 years old and climbed his first major mountain when he was 20. In 1958 Hillary took an expedition to the South Pole. His group was the third to ever reach the South Pole over land and the first to do it using motor vehicles.
