In Year 2 the children continue to follow the creative curriculum and build on the knowledge and skills they have been taught in Year 1. They continue to become more independent in a safe and happy environment. We value the individual child and work closely with parents and carers and other professionals to meet their needs.
Our topics this year are Superheroes, Fire Fire!, Roll Up, Roll Up, Park life and Australian Adventure. For more information please see the Curriculum Newsletters in the links below.
The children’s PE days for both classes are Tuesday and Thursday. Please remember that the children need to have a PE kit in school at all times, as PE must be done in the proper clothing and footwear. Please ensure that it is all clearly labelled.
Each week the children will receive three pieces of homework. Spellings/dictations and comprehension homework is set on Mondays. Spelling/dictation tests are on Fridays. Maths homework is set on a Friday due in for the following Friday. Please support your child to learn to read and spell the Year 2 common exception words, these are attached in the front on your child’s reading record.
During Year 2 the children will take their Key Stage 1 SATs. More information can be found about the Key Stage 1 SATs through this link to the Key Stage 1 SATs presentation and on the gov.uk website.
We began our term with a Superheroes day! We made masks and capes, rescued Mr Incredible’s pets from the woods and created superhero switchboards. We have also learned about several real superheroes, including Christopher Columbus, Neil Armstrong and Ellen MacArthur. In Maths, we have solved word problems for the superheros and designed houses and rockets for them. In Science, we have tested materials for superhero capes and houses. In fact we have been SUPERHEROES ourselves!
